They're not voting because...
- The electoral system is a sham
The electoral system is a sham which serves no purpose but to give us an illusion of control over our society.
The only power we have is through action and organisation. Tennant's groups, unions, campaigns can change things, but voting never will. The only time any government improves things for the majority, as opposed to the ruling minority, is when we force them to.
I met an ex-MP a while back who quit because the power was "all with the civil service and the corporations". I agree. Most of our day is ruled by employers not politicians anyway.
One day, we will create a directly democratic society, and then I will vote. But in the meantime, I'll stick to organising and taking action directly to improve my life. Voting in a sham would only help to legitimise it.

gwroe replies: I am very sympathetic with your views, but the only way we are going to change the electoral system is voting for politicians that want to change it. Why not try the Greens?

sans replies: I do agree with your views. But I must say change does happen albeit the pace is slower than most of us would wish for.
