Not Apathetic

Tell the world why you're not voting - don't let your silence go unheard

They're not voting because...

I'm not voting because... I'm idle and...

I'm not voting because... I'm idle and more interested in watching hours of celebrity reality TV than engaging in politics. Thankfully this site allows me to be self righteous about my lazy choice.

Gavin replies: Yes, it's interesting that all these people who have no interest in politics and are just lazy idiots somehow manage to find a site on the internet that is entirely about politics and take the time to comment on their considered reasons for choosing not to vote. "Apathy" requires that you do not care and do not have an opinion. Anyone who has constructed a considered reason for making the entirely legitimate choice not to vote is not apathetic or lazy. Additionally, other people's reasoning and comments may even change some people's minds. Those who are apathetic about politics will obviously have no interest in this site.

original poster replies: Gavin, very fair points - indeed my first post seems a little crass (with the benefit of hindsight) However, I fear that for every politically engaged non voter, there are a hundred who do deserve a gentle ribbing. For the few who do provide "a considered reason for making the entirely legitimate choice not to vote" then I salute your noble (if futile) gesture - indeed you have provided me with a good deal to think about. Yet the majority post a single trivial and oft bizarre reason to avoid voting. Leaving the impression that its been seized upon as an excuse to avoid actually thinking about politics. "they is all the same man, innit" "i forgot to register to vote, its not my fault" etc, etc

About Not Apathetic

NotApathetic was built so that people who are planning not to vote in the UK General Election on May 5th can tell the world why. We won't try to persuade you that voting is a good or a bad idea - we're just here to record and share your explanations. Whether ideological, practical or other, any reason will do.

A lot of users would like us to mention that if you spoil your ballot paper, it will be counted. So if you want to record a vote for "none of the above", you can.
