ALL politicians should:
be subject to a maximum salary, say £25k a year, and must not have another job or receive money/gifts/freebies/whatever while in office (with a life sentence of solitary confinement for anyone contraveneing these rules)
be restricted to using the NHS, public transport and state schools
receive the same electioneering budget as each other, thus avoiding the richest party (with donations from industries intent on getting their own way) inevitably being the most visible and most likely to win.
We need either a written constitution outlining these rules or a revolution.

Gavin replies: Mmm, good plan - then we can have a government of idealists, rather than people who are capable of holding the necessary roles. There are always going to be people at the top end of government who have plenty of money, but local MPs are not that well off. OK, so they're bound to be middle class, but that's not unreasonable.

gwh replies: And we can move the parliament to the far north of scotland
1) So they can afford to live on £25k

2) Far enough away that we wont have to listen to them
3) Less journalists in london -
Michael Smith replies: I think that the salery thing should be capped based on what job they would have in industry. I agree with the rest but I think 25k a year is too little. Especially if they have to afford housing in London and possibly a family to support.
But the rest of the idea is sound.
