Not Apathetic

Tell the world why you're not voting - don't let your silence go unheard

They're not voting because...

I have reached the age of 71 and never...

I have reached the age of 71 and never voted not because I am apathtic. I have always been active and interested in ways of increasing democracy from the grass roots. The party political system has failed miserably. It always has and always will work in conjunction with the power of the establishment to see that the real power stays where it is. Even more today than ever, the party political system is in the pocket of the corporate world. Decisions will be made that suit big business irespective of the damage to the environment or the people. For anything like democracy the people have to take control of their own lives and the society they live in. Communities have to organise in federation with other communities to short circuit the power of the festering marriage of state and corporate greed. The people who work in industries have to take control of those industries and work in federation with the society they live in for the general good of the commonweal, not to the enrichment of a club of elitists. Only by trying to form a society controled from the bottom up and based on free association, voluntary co-operation and mutual aid can we ever see an end to war and poverty.

Boojam replies: Was just wondering who decides what the general good of the commonweal is in your system?

John Couzin replies: Well Boojam, obviously you don't seem to be able to think without a leader. Perhaps the people involved in the various situations in federation with other such groups would decide.Perhaps you yourself could become part of the dicision making process in the various activities that you are part of, or do you need somebody to tell you what to do and think. If you were part of the decision making process I'm sure you would try to come up with the best ideas for the betterment of the society you were part of. Try to think outside the state/corporate/profit matrix.

About Not Apathetic

NotApathetic was built so that people who are planning not to vote in the UK General Election on May 5th can tell the world why. We won't try to persuade you that voting is a good or a bad idea - we're just here to record and share your explanations. Whether ideological, practical or other, any reason will do.

A lot of users would like us to mention that if you spoil your ballot paper, it will be counted. So if you want to record a vote for "none of the above", you can.
