Not Apathetic

Tell the world why you're not voting - don't let your silence go unheard

They're not voting because...

There's no point. Within the next 5 ...

There's no point. Within the next 5 years society as we know it will have broken down as world oil demand outstrips supply. And before the protests start, we aren't waiting for the oil to actually run out; all it will take is for the markets to worry and the price to rise above a certain point - and stay there. Once this happens, and petrol stations start to close down, people will start to panic. Government crackdowns will be next. Wait and see. Our doom is upon us.

Si replies: I'm cynical enough to believe that there are a number of alternative energy technologies well under development, which will, as if by magic, appear when the situation you describe begins to affect the western economies.

Whereupon they will be glad to license them on at an exhorbitant price, probably spookily similar to oil prices at the time.

Why do they wait? Well, why miss these boom time oil prices as the supply/demand ratio reaches crazy levels?

I guess the trick would be to make sure the western economies have absolute control over what's left of the oil to really cash in on the 'closing soon' price hikes. Now, if only we controlled somewhere like Iraq... and better do it quick before the Chinese get in on the act...

About Not Apathetic

NotApathetic was built so that people who are planning not to vote in the UK General Election on May 5th can tell the world why. We won't try to persuade you that voting is a good or a bad idea - we're just here to record and share your explanations. Whether ideological, practical or other, any reason will do.

A lot of users would like us to mention that if you spoil your ballot paper, it will be counted. So if you want to record a vote for "none of the above", you can.
