To register as an ex-pat (Brit who doesn't live in Britain) voter I'd have to get another ex-pat Brit already registered to vouch for me by signing my form. It gets better, though! If you elect to vote by post, they send the forms about a week before the election. One week! The ballot then has to cross the Atlantic to get to me, I mark it, and send it back. It has to arrive before end of polling on election day to be counted. The chances of this happening in a week are pretty remote. So, yeah, that's why I'm not voting this time round. Next time, I might be organised enough to nominate a proxy - though even then, they would have to go vote where *I* was last registered.
