They're not voting because...
- The parties in our current UK system...
The parties in our current UK system are merely shades of grey. HOw can one be expected to vote for a party if they don't stand for anything radically different to the other parties in the running? What ever happened to Labour being socialist? It would seem that they have receeded from socialist ideals and become more a party based on the doctrines of modern liberals. I like the idea of the Green Party but they are likely not to respond adequately to human issues such as racism and sexism. Bring back the Monster Raving Loonies. Ironically they make more sense than any of the five dominant parties.

Gavin replies: Labour have become a viable party only by dropping the Socialism. You would expect this situation as the parties evolve to meet the "ideal" of whatever it is the majority of people in this country will vote for. It is likely that the Lib Dems will follow the same path to give themselves a chance of getting into power.
It'll take some kind of major movement or major change to alter this trend. Soundbite politics will last as long as it wins elections. If dissatisfaction increases to the point that it is worth "advertising" to the dissatisfied electorate, at least one of the parties will do just that and win the election that way. Alternatively, something will happen that coincides with an election that turns enough people in a particular direction. For instance, if the Iraq war had started a couple of years later, Labour would have gone on to lose this election, I imagine.
