Yes, all the effort to get universal suffrage was worth it, and not to be sniffed at, but now we have democracy it's time to get rid of nations. Voting for national representatives simply entrenches an archaic system. Take the power back to local level.

Jeffrey replies: and then we need to take it back up to a national and international level in order to standardise laws and legislation. We all want laws in our local area that work for us, and then complain bitterly at the red tape when a criminal is inconsiderate enough to cross borders.

JohnD replies: Sure, localisation is not without difficulty. And I work in standardisation, so I know that it is valuable and cant be localised.

We can have both, but power is best seated as close to the community as possible. National and international law and policing are done by grudging agreement and thats the way it should stay (go on, get me started on terrorism).
