Not Apathetic

Tell the world why you're not voting - don't let your silence go unheard

They're not voting because...

Voting legitimises this system: these...

Voting legitimises this system: these campaigning politicians are like quacks in 19th century marketplaces, hawking elixirs of love and longevity. No one, in their heart of hearts, truly believes a word they say, but they still win because people want to believe that everything will one day be perfect. The reality of "democracy" is not what these elixirmongers promise, but: a licence for the tyranny of bureaucracy, carte blanche for the majority to oppress the minority, and above all, a recipe for whipping up fear into the useful political fuel of mass hysteria. Definitions, meanwhile, go unquestioned by any party: economic liberalisation and globalisation must be good... ask the manual workers of Western Europe whether they agree with that. Prosperity must and can go on improving forever, disease and poverty will be eliminated without harming the planet by overpopulation ... a first year biology or physics lesson is enough to rubbish the delusions upon which the whole political debate is built. But people want to believe in future perfect, and the showmen give them what they want, just so they can keep their jobs for another five years.

piersh replies: I think the Green party DO challenege those assumptions. Would you rather we didn't get a say in the way we're governed?

chirpy replies: What on earth makes you think you're getting a say in the way you're governed? Sounds to me like the
forlorn gobble of a turkey who's voting for Christmas.

piersh replies: And there's me thinking they counted my vote. Sigh. Seriously, this is self-indulgent nonsense. There are of course countries where people have no say in how they're governed & they're not nice places to live.
There are some intelligent points made on this website, but this is self-indulgent twaddle.

About Not Apathetic

NotApathetic was built so that people who are planning not to vote in the UK General Election on May 5th can tell the world why. We won't try to persuade you that voting is a good or a bad idea - we're just here to record and share your explanations. Whether ideological, practical or other, any reason will do.

A lot of users would like us to mention that if you spoil your ballot paper, it will be counted. So if you want to record a vote for "none of the above", you can.
